Installation
Install the Firecrawl plugin
Codex installs plugins from the ChatGPT plugin directory, so one Firecrawl plugin works in both. Install it, connect your Firecrawl account, and start a new session. You do not need to configure an MCP server, install skills, or paste an API key.

Install the Firecrawl plugin
Click Add to Codex on this page to open the official Firecrawl listing in the ChatGPT plugin directory, where Firecrawl is one of the top three Productivity plugins. You can also open Plugins in Codex and search for Firecrawl.

Connect your Firecrawl account
After you select Install, Codex asks you to sign in to Firecrawl and approve the connection. No account yet? You can create one for free in the same flow.

Start a new session
Start a new Codex session so it loads the plugin, then ask it to use Firecrawl. For example:

Add Firecrawl
Run this command in your terminal. Codex detects that Firecrawl uses OAuth and opens the sign-in flow, where you choose a team and approve the connection.

Start Codex and verify
Start Codex, enter /mcp, and confirm that firecrawl is connected.

General
Firecrawl gives Codex tools to search the web, scrape pages, map and crawl sites, run research with the Firecrawl agent, and operate live pages. It can also search developer sources and research papers. Codex uses these tools when a task needs live web data.
No. The hosted server uses browser sign-in, so you do not put a key in your Codex config. For unattended use, you can configure an API key instead. The Firecrawl docs show how.
Technical
Yes. Codex installs plugins from the ChatGPT plugin directory, so the same Firecrawl plugin works in both. Follow the plugin steps on this page, or set up the MCP server from your terminal instead.
Yes. Run npx -y firecrawl-cli@1 setup defaults --agent codex. It updates ~/.codex/config.toml to turn off the built-in web search in Codex.
Integration
Run codex mcp list and confirm that only one firecrawl entry exists, then restart Codex. If sign-in returns 401, run codex mcp login firecrawl and complete the sign-in.
